Can golf carts be driven on the roads?

To be driven on the road, you must tag and title your low-speed vehicle or cart. “Low-speed vehicle” means any four-wheeled electric or gasoline vehicle, excluding golf carts, whose top speed is greater than twenty miles per hour (20 mph), but not greater than twenty-five miles per hour (25 mph), including neighborhood electric vehicles. What does your golf cart require to be a low-speed vehicle?

To be a low-speed vehicle a cart must have side mirrors, windshield, seat belts, turn signals, head/tail lights and brake lights. 

Are electric golf carts better than gas golf carts?

Both electric and gas golf carts are very reliable and great golf carts.

Do golf carts need insurance?

We recommend you contact your insurance provider as every plan is unique. 

Will a golf cart fit in a truck bed or a trailer?

A 10’ and 12’ trailer is recommended for transporting most golf cart models.

How fast can a golf cart go?

The top speed for a golf cart is around 15 mph. A golf cart that is classified as a low speed vehicle will go up to 25 mph.

Do golf carts have seat belts?

Some have seat belts from the factory and others such as EZGO, can have seat belts added.

Can a golf cart tow a trailer or a jet ski?

Most golf cart models can pull a light trailer or jet ski.

How often should I check the water in my batteries?

Is it normal to have to add water?

Needing to add water is normal, as you lose some to evaporation each time the cart is charged.

Should I charge my batteries before checking the water?

Yes, you want to make sure your cart has a full charge before checking the water levels in your batteries.

How often do I need to charge the batteries on my golf cart?

You should charge at the end of each use, daily.

How often should I have my golf cart serviced?

Annual maintenance for electric carts, to have the batteries tested, transmission fluid checked, and brakes inspected. Gas cars should have the oil and filters changed every season. 

Can a golf cart battery freeze?

The only way that a battery can freeze is if it is left in a state of partial or complete discharged. As the state of charge in a battery decreases, the electrolyte becomes more like water and the freezing temperature increases. The freezing temperature of the electrolyte in a fully charged battery is -92°
F. At a 40% state of charge, electrolyte will freeze if the temperature reaches approximately 16°F.

Does my deep cycle battery develop a memory?

Lead acid batteries do not develop any type of memory. This means that you do not have to deep discharge or completely discharge a battery before recharging it.  

Do batteries self-discharge when not in use?

All batteries, regardless of their chemistry, self-discharge. The rate of self-discharge depends on the type of battery, the age of the battery, and the storage temperature the batteries are exposed to. As an estimate, Trojan batteries self-discharge approximately 4% per week at 80°F.
