It should come as no surprise that there’s a certain type of maintenance required for your golf cart during the cold winter months. In order to keep your golf cart in excellent working condition, you’ll want to follow some key steps during the winter and even some things you should do before the onset of spring.

At Mikey's Motors, we strive to help our customers in any way that we can. We’ve gathered some helpful information on golf cart winterization. Read on to learn more, and if you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with us at our dealership.

Battery Winterization

Keep in mind that the maintenance you do in preparation for winter is completely different than spring and summer. You’ll want to prepare your golf cart for storage so it doesn’t suffer any damage during the cold winter months.

If you own an electric golf cart, your first priority is to keep your battery in pristine condition. Charge the battery to full power, which will reduce the odds that it’ll freeze. It’s also a good idea to clean the battery to reduce corrosion buildup.

Inspect the Tires

After you’ve winterized your battery, check to make sure your tires are inflated to a PSI level of 20 to 25 because a deflated tire can lead to sidewall cracks. Luckily, this is a fairly low amount of maintenance since you won’t be using your golf cart while it’s in storage.

When you remove your golf cart from storage, be sure it’s ready to go before taking off. Check the PSI in your tires and remember to inflate to the level suggested in the owner’s manual. At this time, you should also inspect the tires for any visible damage.

Suspension and Brakes

Next, check the suspension by looking underneath for any leaking oil. If you happen to notice that any hardware is missing from the strut, you’ll need to replace it. Worn-down bushings should be replaced, too. Check the electric components like the speed controls and reverse warning buzzer. Make sure the steering wheel doesn’t feel loose.

Check the brake pads for wear and tear. Gas golf carts should be inspected twice a year as a preventive measure, with certain parts needing occasional replacement.
